Supreme Court Rejects Video Poker on Catawba Reservation

The U.S. Supreme Court Monday rejected a South Carolina Indian tribe's bid to use video poker machines on their reservation.

(Washington, DC) -- The U.S. Supreme Court Monday rejected a South Carolina Indian tribe's bid to use video poker machines on their reservation.The court without comment turned down an appeal from the Catawba Indian Nation.The Catawbas were challenging a state Supreme Court ruling that a state ban on video poker also applies to its only federally recognized tribe.Video poker machines were outlawed statewide in 2000.The Catawbas had argued that their 1993 land deal with the state allowed them to use the machines on their reservation.The case is Catawba Indian Tribe v. South Carolina, 07-69.
