Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Tropical Depression Twelve formed Sunday night in the Atlantic near the southern Bahamas.
The storm was producing sustained winds of 35 mph with some stronger gusts late Sunday night. It was moving northwest at 14 mph.
Tropical Depression Twelve is expected to strengthen slightly and could become a tropical storm Monday. If it becomes a named storm, it will be Kate.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the central and northwestern Bahamas.
The storm is not expected to affect the United States.
