COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Columbia-area woman got a birthday surprise on Saturday ahead of a significant milestone.
Francenia Myers-Brown celebrated turning 100 years young at a birthday party held at the Medallion Conference Center.
“Granny Frannie,” as she is known to loved ones, was born in Gadsden, South Carolina and raised 13 children.
At Saturday’s event, her daughter shared some life lessons she learned from her mother.
“My mom taught us to be very independent and to be able to work hard and earn what you need and what you want,” Gloria Majors said. “And she said to always save.”
Her other daughter, who shares her name, shared what she believes are the secrets to her mother's long life.
"So, I think the secret was her eating pattern, her prayers, her love for others, and she still do that until today," she said. "She love people."
Governor Henry McMaster also awarded Brown the Centenarian Award for her lifelong contributions to South Carolina.
