Lexington County 'Hooties' raise nearly $17K for local medical center foundation

Lexington County sported special Hooties jerseys which were auctioned off to raise money for the Lexington Medical Center Foundation

LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Lexington County Hooties held their one and only 2024 performance Friday night at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

The alter ego of the Blowfish sported special jerseys with the word "Hooties" on the front and "Blowfish" on the back.

Since its inception in Columbia and now with Lexington serving as the home of the Palmetto State's only Coastal Plain League franchise, the team has been known as the "Blowfish". The moniker is a nod to the band "Hootie and the Blowfish" which is currently on tour. But the band's presence was felt Friday night in terms of giving back to the community on this special night.

The auction raised $8,427 and with the Hootie and the Blowfish foundation matching that total dollar for dollar, the final amount raised was $16,854 for the Lexington Medical Center Foundation.
