CLEMSON, S.C. — Derek Bender hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Caden Bodine hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh to lift Coastal Carolina to a 6-5 win over High Point in an elimination game in the Clemson regional.
With the win, Coastal Carolina advances to the regional final where it will need to defeat Clemson twice to keep its season alive by advancing to the Super Regionals.
The win over High Point also means the career of legendary Chanticleer head baseball coach Gary Gilmore will be extended for at least one more game.
CCU was trailing 5-4 in the seventh when Bodine delivered a two-run home run to put the Conway-based team in front.
The two teams met Saturday evening in a winners bracket game with the Tigers pulling out a 4-3 win.
