Columbia College basketball will have two basketball programs as early as the fall of 2024

The NAIA program will add men's basketball in the coming months as Columbia College will take a major step in growing its athletic program.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Columbia College women's basketball team was in action Wednesday night at Porter Gymnasium where it defeated Union College of Kentucky 82-78.

In the coming months, that team and the volleyball team will have company in Porter Gymnasium.

Earlier this week, the school announced the addition of men's basketball which could come to fruition as early as the fall of this year.

Columbia College athletics first began competing in the early 1970s with tennis and swimming. The basketball program came on board in the 1974-1975 academic year and nearly 50 years later, men's basketball will be making its debut at Columbia's NAIA institution.
