He won more than 400 games and five state titles during a 22-year career as the head boys basketball coach at Eau Claire High School. He then spent 10 years in the NBA on the staffs of the Blazers, Pacers and Knicks.
Now retired, Glymph has plenty of memories of his days patrolling the sidelines and now his career is the subject of the documentary "Pride, Poise and Dedication, The Unsung Story of George Glymph".
Memphis filmmaker George Tillman, Jr. produced the documentary which features comments from Hall of Famers Alex English and Isaiah Thomas, along with one of his former players, Jermaine O'Neal who made the jump from Eau Claire High School to the NBA's Portland Trailblazers.
"tt was awesome," Glymph said after watching the film at Saturday's unveiling at Eau Claire High School.
"It was beyond my wildest dreams. It was great."
O'Neal had told Glymph he wouldn't be able to make it and that's what Glymph had told people who asked but in the front row of the auditorium was his former player who was a first-round draft pick of the Trail Blazers back in 1996. O'Neal says Glymph played the role of father figure as well as coach.
"You know when he gave me the opportunity to achieve a goal and help me set a goal, it inspired me to do more and be more," O'Neal said.
"To this very day, this man is still leading me, still leading me, I'm still learning, still asking questions. He's always going to be a father to me even before a coach."
