S.C. State picked to finish fourth out of six teams in the MEAC

The Bulldogs are entering their first season under the direction of new head coach Chennis Berry

NORFOLK, Va. — South Carolina State has been picked to finish fourth in the MEAC, that according to the league's preseason poll based on voting by the head coaches and sports information directors.

  3. Morgan State (1) 80
  4. S.C. State (2) 78
  5. Norfolk State (1) 50
  6. Delaware State 22

Eight Bulldog players were named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference team.
 
Offensive linemen Nick Taiste (White Knoll) and Cam Johnson (Dutch Fork) are on the first team along with Hartsville product Eric Brown and former Gamecock and Williston-Elko product Keshawn Toney who is manning the tight end spot. Wide receiver Justin Smith-Brown from Coco, Florida is also on the first team. 

Linebacker Aaron Smith from Manning and defensive back Jamare Benjamin from Spartanburg led the way on defense with All-MEAC First Team honors, while newcomer return specialist Einaj Carter was selected to the All-MEAC Second Team.

The Bulldogs open the 2024 campaign on August 31st, on the road against SWAC foe Florida A&M inside Bragg Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
