ST CHARLES, Mo. — Brett Combs is a good golfer, he has a 7-handicap. But what he did five days ago, not even Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods has done.
Bogey Hills County Club in St. Charles, Missouri, had recorded 160 holes-in-one, but they had never a day like last Sunday.
"Went into shock phase," golfer Ben Toebben said.
"It's like being in a twilight zone," Combs said.
And now you're about to enter another dimension of golf.
At 9:48 a.m. on Sunday, Combs, 65, used a 5-hybrid club on the second hole from 175 yards away.
"Everybody was looking at it (saying), 'Oh that's in the hole. That's it. It hit, it hit,'" Combs said. "And I thought it stopped by the hole. But another guy with the rangefinder said, 'No, it fell in.'"
At 11:15 a.m., Combs moved to the eighth hole. A 145-yard shot, a 9-iron and no one was certain at first where the ball ended up. And they looked and looked.
"The ball mark here, another ball there. I thought it couldn't be, there's no way," he said. "I looked, it was in there. I backed off because I didn't want to be accused of cheating. My buddies came and saw it. I picked it out. Number two."
"When we first heard about it we had a member come in and said, 'Mr. Combs, you know, has had two holes-in-one today,' and I'm like, 'Yeah,'" Ryan Roy said.
After all, the odds of making two holes-in-one for nine holes is 156,250,000 to one.
"It's hard to believe and then word spread, word spread," Combs said.
And let it be known, Combs, like all "hole-in-oners," paid for quite a celebration.
"$1,300 worth," Combs said.
"(He) bought us food, which is unheard of. So I had a nice fillet and about 20 beers," Toebben said.
