BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — Basketball legend Alex English is putting down the ball and picking up the golf clubs for a special event.
The Alex English Celebrity Golf Tournament will be at Cobblestone Park Golf Club on Sept. 23.
They are still accepting golfers.
The money raised will go to Family Promise of the Midlands, a charity that helps families experiencing homelessness.
“I grew up with nothing. I had to work hard to change my circumstances," English said. "Basketball saved me, so for kids who don’t have that, they deserve a chance, too.”
English spends much of his time giving back to the community. He hosts basketball camps around the Midlands and is working on a talent program in February to get kids into the Arts.
He attended Dreher High School, played at South Carolina and then went on to the NBA. He is also a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
