Augenstein delivers a Sunday surge to win the Midlands Chevy Dealers City Golf Tournament

Entering the final round at even par, Henry Augenstein shot a 5-under 67 to win the annual city golf tournament by one shot.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — On a day when Xander Schauffele surged to the top of the leaderboard at the Open Championship, Henry Augenstein accomplished a similar feat Sunday at the Fort Jackson Golf Club.

Augenstein fired a 5-under 67 to win the Midlands Chevy Dealers City Golf Tournament for the first time.

The Hammond and Wofford grad opened the third and final round at even par for the tournament before catching fire and building a 7-under par round through 15 holes. A double-bogey dropped Augenstein into a tie for the lead with Drake Kennedy at 5-under par.

But after Augenstein saved par on 18, Kennedy missed a short par putt to fall into a tie for second with two-time defending city tournament champion Patrick Stephenson and Spencer Skiff.

Augenstein admitted afterwards he had three-putted 18 in the first two days at the Fort Jackson Golf Club. But on Sunday, Augenstein rolled a short putt for par to finish his round and the tournament at 5-under par.

This was Augenstein's first city title after several attempts.
