Holding court in Camden, Joyce Edwards announces she will play at South Carolina

The second-ranked prospect for the Class of 2024, Camden senior forward Joyce Edwards announced Wednesday she is headed to South Carolina.

CAMDEN, South Carolina — Joyce Edwards continued the parade of local 5-star prospects who can not say no to Dawn Staley.

From A'ja Wilson to Ashlyn Watkins to Milaysia Fulwiley, Staley has proven to be unbeatable on the recruiting trail when it comes to prospects in the 803 area code.

Edwards, the second-ranked prospect in the Class of 2024, made her college choice official Wednesday night in a ceremony at her school, choosing South Carolina over LSU and Clemson.

The 6-2 Edwards is the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year after she helped Camden win the Class 3A state championship last March, the first such title for that program in 40 years.

Over the summer, Edwards was in Spain helping Team USA win gold at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. One of her teammates on that team was current Gamecock sophomore Chloe Kitts who made the trip to Camden High School to support Edwards. Kitts said she didn't know which hat Edwards would grab but as it turned out, Edwards made her decision Sunday after attending the Maryland game at the Colonial Life Arena where she had a chance to talk with Wilson and WNBA Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston.
