Longtime Chapin head football coach Justin Gentry is retiring

With more than 30 years in the coaching profession, Justin Gentry has decided now is the time to retire and begin a new chapter of his life.

CHAPIN, S.C. — Justin Gentry says the time is now.

Gentry is stepping down after 14 seasons as the head football coach at Chapin but he is not taking another coaching job. Gentry is retiring from coaching which will be something new and exciting for the Palmetto State native.

A graduate of Holly Hill Academy and Francis Marion University, Gentry' started his coaching career under Dean Boyd at Williston-Elko. When Boyd took over at Marlboro County, Gentry followed him to Bennettsville but left after one season to take over the program at Williston-Elko. He would eventually be hired as the head football coach at Lake City before coming to Chapin.

Gentry won 146 games in his career and he also served as the South team head coach of the 2022 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl. He is also a former assistant for the South Carolina team in the 2014 Shrine Bowl.
