A dominating defense carries the South Carolina team to a 24-0 win over North Carolina in the Shrine Bowl

The South Carolina defense pitches a shutout while the offense scores three touchdowns in the second half in a 24-0 win over the North in the annual Shrine Bowl.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — With the North Carolina offense limited to three first downs and 49 total yards, the South Carolina Shrine Bowl team put together one of the most dominating performances in the history of the annual All-Star Game featuring the best players in the Carolinas.

The Sandlappers had a 3-0 lead at halftime before pulling away after intermission. The first touchdown of the game was a 43-yard touchdown pass from Rock Hill quarterback Matthew Wilson to Calhoun County and N.C. State commit Christian Zachary.

The 10-0 lead was extended in the fourth with a pair of touchdowns, Wilson and Strom Thurmond product Brandon Staley would hook up on a 41-yard touchdown pass. A Tennessee commit, Staley led the South with 62 yards receiving on three receptions.

Marion defensive back and Kentucky pledge Quay'sheed Scott intercepted a North pass and returned it to the two-yard line. Midland Valley's Traevon Dunbar would punch it in to cap off the scoring.

Calhoun County head football coach Wayne Farmer led a strong Midlands contingent working the game. Farmer served as the head coach of the Sandlappers along with assistants James Breland from Sumter, Brookland-Cayce head football coach Rusty Charpia and Gilbert's Chad Leaphart. Leaphart is retiring as Gilbert's head football coach to become the district athletics director for Lexington School District One.
