It is state championship week for high school softball

Gray Collegiate Academy and Lexington were on the field for their respective openers of their state championship series

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Summerville pitcher Ansley Bennett recorded 13 strikeouts, allowed two walks and did not allow a hit as the Green Wave defeated Lexington 4-0 in game one of the best-of-three 5A state championship series.

The South Carolina signee helped the defending state champion improve to 29-0 while Lexington is now 20-9.

Katie Guilliam and Melanie Edwards homered for Summerville.

Game two is Thursday at Summerville.


In game one of the 2A state championship series, Gray Collegiate Academy travelled to Marion and rolled to a 9-1 win to take command of that series.

Freshman Aspen Boulware continues to be a major weapon for the War Eagles as she recorded a two-run, inside-the-park home run.

Gray Collegiate Academy can win the 2A state title with a win at home Wednesday.
