Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- The News19 Player of the Week program closed out the 2014-15 academic year with the annual Player of the Year banquet.
A pair of $1,000 scholarships courtesy of the title sponsor Bojangles were handed out along with two trophies to the Players of the Year.
The Female Player of the Year is Blythewood softball player Ansley Gilstrap who will play for USC-Upstate next season. Gilstrap was described by coaches and teammates as someone who would give of her time to help work with junior varisty players - all in an effort to help grow the sport she loves.
The Male Player of the Year is Kendric Gathers from W.J. Keenan High School. A North-South All-Star Game participant, Gathers has signed to play football at South Carolina State. Gathers was a part of a Raider football team which made the 2A state championship game for the firs time in program history. He also was a member of the basketball team which captured the 2A state title. Gathers was a part of a student group which spent one day a week helping to feed the homeless in Columbia.
