PELION, S.C. — News19 visited Pelion High School to honor senior Aubry Bruner, a standout student-athlete excelling both in the classroom and on the volleyball court.
Bruner is set to graduate as valedictorian of her class in the spring of 2025, and she’s also on track to earn an associate's degree from Midlands Technical College. But her achievements don’t stop there: Bruner is a key member of the Pelion Panthers volleyball team. Her coach described her as the glue that holds the team together.
Her journey into volleyball began in the seventh grade, sparking a passion for the game and a drive to succeed.
"I really like to win," Bruner said. "So I like people who boost that, and they also play and let you have a passion and they want to win."
Bruner's impact on the team hasn’t gone unnoticed by her coach, Elizabeth Peeples.
“Aubrey is an amazing team player,” said Peeples. “She cares about her teammates and wants everyone to succeed and do well. When she sees her teammates struggling, she steps in and gives them constructive feedback. She’s very competitive, always working to make herself better, and she really wants to win.”
Beyond volleyball, Bruner is looking ahead to her future. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina to study studio art with dreams of one day becoming a college professor. But for now, she's focused on making the most of her time as a Panther.
"I love this school. I love the people, I love the coaches, and they make it so much fun," Bruner said. "Everything we do, we do for love and passion. It’s not just for an empty meaning like just to win."
Congratulations to Aubry Bruner, News 19's Player of the Week!
