COLUMBIA, S.C. — Devan Crumpton has been competing in track and field since he was eight years old and his hard work over the years led to a scholarship offer from South Carolina head coach Tim Hall which Devan gladly accepted and signed with the Gamecocks in March.
A two-sport standout at Spring Valley, Devan played defensive back for the Vikings and in December, he was at Myrtle Beach where he competed in the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl.
But it's on the track where Devan can showcase his speed at maximum benefit, to the point where Devan says during competition, he zones everything out.
"Really, don't hear anything but my feet hitting the ground and the wind blowing in my ears," Crumpton said.
Spring Valley head track and field coach Matt Oberly says South Carolina will be getting someone who is a natural competitor who will maximize his outstanding talent.
