Drew Spires has set a high standard in the classroom along with competing in football and basketball

The Richard Winn standout will continue his athletic career as a preferred walk-on for The Citadel football team.

WINNSBORO, S.C. — Drew Spires was on the court at Wilson Hall a couple of weeks ago competing ijn the SCISA North-South All-Star Basketball Game.

But it is football that Drew will concentrate on when he arrives at The Citadel.

Drew has signed as preferred walk-on for the Bulldogs and he is more than prepared for the lifestyle at the state's military college.

He is ranked fourth in the senior class with a grade point average above a 5.1.

Richard Winn Academy head basketball coach Nick Chaisson says he has seen Drew's work ethic in the weight room and on the court carry over to the classroom and he expects that attitude to lead to continued high marks once he gets to college.
