Shreya Bose Is The News19 Player of the Week

Badminton is not a sanctioned high school sport, but that doesn't diminish the accomplishments of an A.C. Flora senior who has risen to the top of the national rankings.

Shreya Bose is the top-ranked badminton player in the junior division for both singles and doubles. She will put her lofty ranking on the line this weekend at the Boston Junior Open Super Regional Tournament in Massachusetts.

Academically, Shreya has a 3.4 grade point average and the hardest problem in picking a college is finding one with a badminton program. That search could take her to the Northeast if she chooses to pursue that.

Badminton has been an Olympic sport since 1992. If Shreya wants to make an Olympic run, she would haver to start competing on the international stage. For now, she is content to compete in some of the most prestigious tournaments in the United States, while zeroing in on a college where she can major in computer science - and compete in her chosen sport.
