Will Wilson is a News19 Player of the Week

Richland Northeast quarterback is just days away from his college football career kicking off in Raleigh as he will take part in bowl practice at N.C. State.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Will Wilson had quite the career at quarterback for Richland Northeast High School.

The son of head coach Walt Wilson is just a couple of weeks removed from his high school career coming to a end. This season, the Cavaliers won eight games and made it to the second round of the 4A state playoffs. Wilson threw for 2,482 yards and 22 touchdowns this season. He also rushed for 1,144 yards and 20 touchdowns despite missing two games after dealing with a knee issue.

In 2021, Wilson was a freshman for the RNE program which was in the midst of a 24-game losing streak. Four seasons later, the Cavaliers are coming off a two-year stretch where they won a total of 15 games and advanced to the second round of the playoffs in 2023 and 2024.

For his career, Wilson finished with 11,080 all-purpose yards and 119 total touchdowns.

It was last week when Wilson signed with North Carolina State and next week, Wilson will be in Raleigh taking part in bowl practice before he officially enrolls in January as he gets a jump on his college career.

With a 4.6 grade point average, Will was recently named the Richland County Football Player of the Year and he is a finalist for Mr. Football, the state's highest individual honor for high school football. The News19 Player of the Week award is another testament to how Wilson has pushed himself in the classroom as much as he has done on the playing field.
