North Central captures its first state championship in volleyball

The Knights swept Ninety Six 3-0 to win the Class 2A state championship, capping off an unbeaten season in Boonetown.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The third time was indeed the charm for the North Central volleyball team.

The Knights left no doubt in their third appearance in the state finals with an emphatic 3-0 sweep of Ninety Six in the Class 2A state championship which was held Saturday afternoon at Dreher High School.

North Central  (33-0-1) was making its first appearance in the championship match since 2021. Head coach Andy Johnson, in his 23rd season at the helm, saw his team win the first two sets 25-17 and 25-19.

In the third set, the match was tied at 20  before the Knights pulled ahead and secured the match with a 25-21 win in that third set.
