COLUMBIA, S.C. — Jasher Cox, Director of Athletics at Allen University, has announced he will be stepping down from his position, effective Aug. 10.

Cox has been the head of the Yellow Jackets' athletic department since 2021. In the three years he has had the helm, Cox has accomplished quite a bit, including:

  • overseeing the transition of Columbia's HBCU (Historically Black College and University) from an NAIA (National Association on Intercollegiate Athletics) institution to the NCAA
  • created Allen's women's wrestling team, only the second HBCU women's team in the nation
  • purchased and installed the state-of-the-art video board inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium
  • installation of a turfed practice facility
  • installation of an all-digital ticketing system
  • launched The Hive, a five-part professional development series that provides opportunities for student-athletes to gain insight from top industry professionals
  • implementing a "robust" fundraising strategy and partnership system to the benefit of the university's 13 sponsored sports programs.

Before Allen University, Cox was the athletics director at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee, assistant athletic director at Tuskegee University, and assistant commissioner of the Horizon League in Indianapolis, Indiana.

"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to President McNealey, our student-athletes, dedicated coaches, faculty, and staff for the honor of leading them as their athletic director," Cox said in a statement. "The President's cabinet and everyone involved have been exceptional partners and teammates."

Allen University will conduct a nationwide search for a new Director of Athletics. Cox will pursue another professional opportunity.
