Gamecock fans in Pittsburgh over the moon

The founder of the Pittsburgh Gamecock club gives tips about where to eat and what to expect in the Steel City.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — Gamecock fans are gearing up for the men's basketball team's first March Madness appearance in years.

The Gamecock's March Madness schedule could not be better for Shannon Cloherty.

She's a 2021 South Carolina grad and now calls Pittsburgh home as she completes law school.

Cloherty's also the founder of the Pittsburgh Gamecocks group and was ecstatic when she learned they'd be playing just blocks away from where she attends classes.

"On selection Sunday we were so excited and then we put a little plan together for pre- and post-game," she says.

She's one of the many expected to attend the games in Steel City this week. Cloherty says if you plan on coming Thursday, dress warm.

She also says the Pittsburg Gamecocks will be hosting pre- and post-game events at the Moonlight Bar by PPG Paints arena, and more updates can be found on their Facebook page.

"We're all going to walk over together. We're the second game for the first session obviously, so we're going to walk over together," she explains.

She has this advice for anyone making the trip and looking for something fun to do.

"You have to walk through The Strip district; the best local food. There's little to no chain restaurants, that's changing a little bit, but you have to get breakfast at Pamela's, the best crepe style pancakes," she says.

Win or lose, she's ready to be around other fans and celebrate her team.

"We're all excited. I think we're going to have a really good turnout, hopefully, no Oregon fans. I think it's going to be awesome, I'm super excited.

"Playing in PPG is going to be super fun, super electric," she says.
