DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — After getting on the track for Busch Light Clash at the Los Angeles Coliseum and the two qualifying races at Daytona, the Next Gen car will make its debut in an official race when the green flag drops for Sunday's Daytona 500.
Darlington Raceway President Kerry Tharp says the new machine will put the emphasis back in the hands of the driver instead of the aerodynamics. The new cars will also be quite similar to what is bought at car dealerships across the country.
Other notable changes to previous cars, the placement of the number has moved forward which will allow more space for the logos of sponsors. The wheels have been enlarged to an 18-inch aluminum wheel compared to the previous 15-inch steel wheel. Also, the number of lugnuts has been reduced from five to just one.
