SAN ANTONIO — If you want the latest high-end San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama basketball cards from Topps, you must dig deep into your pockets.
Topps recently released a new box set of Wembanyama cards at $8,000 per box!
Yes, you read that right. It will cost $8,000!
The high-end "Topps Mercury: Victor Wembanyama" box set hit shelves on October 9th. Each box features eight cards, including a Wemby game-worn relic card, on-card dual autographs, and unique inscriptions.
Base cards will highlight Wemby’s top rookie moments and include other card variants.
But what exactly do the cards look like inside that pricey box set? Well, wonder no more as sports card collectors at Filthbomb Breaks paid the hefty price tag for the box set.
A photo of Wemby is on the inside of the box cover, with an inscription. Each card is sealed in blackout packaging.
Each card is encased in a plastic magnetic case, sealed in a labeled foil wrap to preserve value, and protected with foam inside the box.
There's also a chance to hit on bonus cards with dual autographs with Wemby and LeBron James, for example.
Wemby cards are in high demand, with some rare cards going for incredible amounts of money at auction.
Recently, Wemby visited San Antonio's Boomtown Sports Cards and Collectibles on Bandera Road to celebrate “Topps Hobby Rip Night.”
"I’m starting to have a little collection," Wembanyama said to fans in attendance. "I’ve got cards of myself, of course."
Wembanyama’s visit was part of a global Topps sports card event. It was a part of Topps Hobby Rip Night for sports trading card and memorabilia hobbyists who descended upon 560-plus hobby shops across the globe.
"It's completely surreal to have him in the shop," Boomtown owner Victor Nava said of Wembanyama's visit. "We come here every day. We don't see someone like that in the shop, and to see him physically here. It was mind-blowing. It was life-changing."
The pricey Wemby card box set is available on Topps.com and at select hobby shops such as Boomtown Sports Cards and Collectibles.
