MEMPHIS, Tenn. — With all the attention in Los Angeles centered around a Kobe Bryant statue which now stands outside of Crypto.com Arena, one of the late NBA icon's scoring record was broken by GG Jackson in a 118-110 loss to the Bulls.
Jackson scored a career-high 27 points which broke Bryant's record for the youngest player in NBA history to score 25 or more points in a game coming off the bench.
The Ridge View product and Memphis Grizzlies rookie achieved the feat at 19 years, 53 days of age. Bryant was 19 years, 78 days when he scored 25 points on November 9, 1997.
After one season at South Carolina, Jackson declared for the NBA Draft and last year, he was chosen in the second round with the 45th overall selection by the Grizzlies.
On Friday, the team announced Jackson has signed a multi-year contract after starting his pro career as a two-way player with the Grizzlies and the team’s G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle.
In 20 games so far in his rookie season, Jackson is averaging 9.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. He has started one game.
