CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets hired all-time leading scorer Kemba Walker as the team's player enhancement coach.
Walker, who retired from the NBA this week, was named as part of the team's new coaching staff, which was announced on Wednesday. Details of Walker's exact role remain unclear, but it appears the franchise made it a priority to get one of the best players in Charlotte basketball history back in the fold.
Walker holds numerous Hornets franchise records, including points, field goals, 3-point field goals and minutes played. He served as the de facto leader of the team after being drafted No. 9 overall in 2011. He made three All-Star teams while in Charlotte and was a starter for the Eastern Conference in 2019.
Other notable names on the new staff include Zeke Chapman, who will be the team's head video coordinator. Chapman is the son of Rex Chapman, the Hornets' first-ever draft pick in 1988.
Key assistants on Charles Lee's staff include veterans Lamar Skeeter, Josh Longstaff, Chris Jent, Blaine Mueller, Ryan Frazier, Matt Hill and Jermaine Bucknor. Mueller and Frazier worked with Lee in Milwaukee.
Skeeter will serve as Charlotte's lead assistant after spending 10 years with the Utah Jazz. Longstaff has 14 years of NBA experience, including two seasons as an assistant in Milwaukee with Lee.
