CHARLESTON, S.C. — Part of Maurice Drayton's coaching path took him to Conway where he worked under then-head coach David Bennett as assistant head coach/special teams coordinator/wide receivers coach from 2010-2011.
During his tenure there, the entire Coastal Carolina coaching staff visited Clemson to see how the Tigers ran their operation. Drayton took his son Montrell on the trip and that was special to the younger Drayton because he had undergone open heart surgeries and he had learned a number of his MUSC doctors and nurses were fans of the orange.
The elder Drayton remembers how Swinney and the Tiger coaches made sure Montrell received plenty of love and attention and that one trip to the Upstate for work made quite the impact in the coach's family life.
Fast forward to 2024 and Dabo and Drayton will face off Satureday in the Bulldogs' final game of the season. Swinney says he doesn't think Montrell will be rooting for the Tigers this week but in the other 11 games, he is pretty sure Drayton's son is "All In".
