CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson's chances of returning to the NCAA Tournament received a big boost Wednesday after guard Chase Hunter announced on social media he will return to the Tiger program for a sixth season.
Hunter's announcement came on the deadline day that college players had to either stay in the NBA Draft or return to their respective college or university. The Atlanta native had declared for the NBA Draft but had retained his college eligibility.
This past season, Hunter averaged 12.9 points per game which was third on the team. He led the team with 3.2 assists per game while placing second on the team with 26 steals.
Hunter averaged 17.8 points, 5.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament as the Tigers advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1980. His return means Clemson will not have to replace its top three scorers from this past season after the departure of PJ Hall and Joseph Girard III.
