CLEMSON, S.C. — The last time Clemson recorded consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament was in 2002 under Jim Davis.
Shawn Poppie has made back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament as the head coach of Chattanooga. He will now try to bring Clemson back to being relevant in March.
Poppie was formally introduced as the head women's basketball coach at Clemson in a high-energy news conference at Littlejohn Coliseum. He won 48 games the past two seasons at Chattanooga where he won consecutive Southern Conference Tournament championships.
Before taking over the program at Chattanooga, he spent six seasons on the Virginia Tech staff.
His Upstate ties are quite extensive as he was an assistant at Furman and USC Upstate.
He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Limestone College, where he played guard. He was a two-time All-Conference player for the Saints, and was the program’s all-time leader assists (602) and steals (168), and finished in third place in scoring (1,246).
