Clemson's Dabo Swinney prepares to face a former assistant for the first time

Former Clemson player and assistant coach Tony Elliott will lead Virginia into Death Valley this Saturday.

CLEMSON, S.C. — The 10th-ranked Clemson Tigers will look to stay in contention for the CFB Playoff when they host Virginia this Saturday as the calendar slowly begins to drift towards November.

The Cavaliers are led by head coach Tony Elliott, the former Clemson receiver whose position coach was none other than current Tiger head coach Dabo Swinney. Elliott started his coaching career at South Carolina State before moving to Furman. In 2011, Swinney lured Elliott back to the Upstate where he was named the Tigers' running backs coach. Elliott would eventually be named co-offensive coordinator and was in the press box when Clemson won its two national championships.

Elliott is in his third season at Virginia and when he goes head-to-head with Swinney on Saturday, it will mark Dabo's first game where he faces off against one of his former assistants.
