IOWA CITY, Iowa — Caitlin Clark, arguably the top player in all of women's college basketball, has declared her intention to enter the WNBA draft.
In a social media post made on Feb. 29, Clark announced that while she has unfinished business with the No. 6 Iowa Hawkeyes, she has decided to set her sights on the future and declare for the 2024 WNBA Draft.
The announcement comes on the heels of Clark passing Lynette Woodard on the all-time list with 3,650 points.
Clark is the presumptive first overall pick in the WNBA draft. The Indiana Fever won the rights to the first overall pick via the WNBA Draft Lottery in December and will likely select Clark with that pick.
"It is impossible to fully express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me during my time at Iowa," the statement read in part.
Less than an hour after the announcement, the Indiana Fever made a simple social media post indicating they are planning on drafting Clark.
“Our staff is preparing for the upcoming WNBA Draft and we will select the best player available with the No.1 overall pick,” Fever general manager Lin Dunn said in a statement.
