COLUMBIA, S.C. — Meechie Johnson is returning to the program where his college career began.
The Ohio native announced on social media he has committed to Ohio State for his final season of college.
A four-star prospect coming out of Garfield Heights High School in Cleveland, Johnson spent his first two years at Ohio State where he saw limited action.
Johnson played in 17 games as a freshman and averaged just 5.8 minutes of playing time with a 1.2 points per game average. In year two, his playing time went to 17.7 minutes per game and his scoring average increased to 4.4 points per game.
When Johnson came to Columbia, his first year saw him finished second on the team in scoring with an average of 12.7 points per game. This past season, Johnson was the team's leading scorer (13.8 ppg) as South Carolina made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in seven years.
When Johnson announced recently he was entering the transfer portal, it was expected he would return to Ohio State and that is indeed the case.
