More than one Dickerson will have a hand in Benedict College football

New Benedict College head football coach Ron Dickerson, Jr. will lean heavily on his father who was a longtime defensive backs coach in the college ranks.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The arrival of Ron Dickerson, Junior as the new head football coach at Benedict College was met with plenty of fanfare.

His family was on hand for Thursday's introductory news conference and that included his father who is a longtime college coach who was a well respected cornerbacks coach.

For the elder Dickerson, returning to Columbia and the Palmetto State is a homecoming of sorts,

During his long coaching career which started in 1973 at his alma mater Kansas State, the elder Dickerson made a stop at Clemson where he served as Ken Hatfield's defensive coordinator from 1991-1993. He also spent some time in Columbia working in the USC athletics department in an administrative role.

Dickerson's coaching career also took him to Penn State where he coached from 1985-1990.

A former head coach at Temple, Alabama State and Lambuth, Dickerson and his son have a strong relationship where the son is always calling on the father for advice, a trend the new head coach at Benedict College says will continue.
