The latest College Football Playoff rankings were unveiled Tuesday night and no doubt, many Gamecocks fans were perplexed at where South Carolina was positioned.

After Saturday's win over Clemson which was a top 15 matchup, the Gamecocks moved up one spot from 15th to 14th.

After Shane Beamer's team earned a sixth straight win to close out the regular season, more than a few national pundits predicted or at least suggested Carolina should be in the top 12. But the expected bump from the win at Clemson did not materialize as the committee has Carolina sitting behind Alabama (11th) and Ole Miss (13th).

There will be one final playoff ranking unveiled next week following the conference championships, but as things stand now, South Carolina will not be a part of the newly expanded 12-team playoff field.

With the Crimson Tide and Rebels sitting above USC, the committee is placing a great emphasis on head to head matchups as both Alabama and Ole Miss defeated the Gamecocks.

Clemson is 17th in the latest ranking but a win over #8 SMU would send the Tigers to the playoff courtesy of an automatic bid.
