Hunter Helms makes his next destination official, signs with Rhode Island

Former Clemson quarterback Hunter Helms, who entered the NCAA transfer portal at the end of the 2023 regular season, has signed with the Rhode Island Rams.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — Hunter Helms is headed to the northeast part of the country.

The former Clemson quarterback who spent three seasons as a reserve quarterback in the Upstate has signed with Rhode Island. He will have two years of eligibility remaining and will pursue his MBA after earning his undergraduate degree in construction science and management in May.

In his three seasons in orange, the Gray Collegiate Academy graduate played in a total of nine games. He completed 23-of-37 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns to go with four carries for 13 yards in 79 career snaps.

“Hunter is a dual-threat quarterback with experience at the highest level in a nationally-prominent FBS program,” Rhode Island offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Patrick Murphy said.

“He brings great size and has a big, extremely accurate arm. His game is also bolstered by his high football IQ and he will offer elite leadership skills to our locker room.”
