GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro will play host to several ACC Championships in the coming years, including the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament in 2027 and 2029.
“It is a great day for Greensboro and Tournament Town,” Greensboro Sports Foundation president Richard Beard.
On Thursday, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced more than 40 of the league's championships will be spread across North Carolina cities in the coming years, including Greensboro.
Here's a look at what's coming to Greensboro:
- ACC Men's Basketball Tournament: 2027, 2029 (Greensboro Coliseum)
- ACC Women's Basketball Tournament: 2024, 2025 (Greensboro Coliseum)
- ACC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championship: 2024, 2025, 2027, 2028, and 2029 (Greensboro Aquatic Center)
- ACC Gymnastics Tournament: 2024, 2025, 2026 (Greensboro Coliseum)
- ACC Women's Golf: 2025, 2027, 2029 (Sedgefield Country Club)
The tournaments are a big win for the city of Greensboro. Ever since the ACC officially moved its headquarters from Greensboro to Charlotte in 2023, Greensboro's future as "Tournament Town" has been up in the air.
But on Thursday, ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips made clear - the league will always remember where it started.
"I love the City of Greensboro and that region," he said. "It will always be the original home of the ACC."
Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan said Tournament Town is "alive and well."
"Thirty-percent of the ACC championships are coming to Greensboro. We always put fans first and make sure they have an unparalleled experience,” Vaughan said.
No city has ever hosted the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament more than Greensboro - 2027 will mark the 30th time.
Already in 2024, Greensboro is playing host to the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament and the ACC Gymnastics Championship. Tickets for those events in March are already on sale.
