Beamer gets ready for a business trip to Norman

The former Oklahoma assistant will lead the Gamecocks when they face the Sooners in the first ever matchup between the two programs.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Before he was named the head football coach at South Carolina, Shane Beamer spent three seasons as an Oklahoma assistant, serving as assistant head coach for offense while working with the H-backs and tight ends.

On Saturday, Beamer will be back on the field at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium as he will lead the Gamecocks against the Sooners in the first meeting ever between the two programs.

Oklahoma is a part of the new 16-team SEC with new head coach Brent Venables, the former Clemson defensive assistant.

The Sooners are coming off a 34-3 loss to Texas in the Red River Rivalry. Carolina will look to bounce back after a 27-25 loss to seventh-ranked Alabama. So, while Beamer will no doubt have good feelings in his return to Norman, that return is part of a business trip where the Gamecocks are looking to move one game over .500 and in the process, earn some redemption after failing to close the deal at home to LSU and this past Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
