That time Bobby Knight made a stop in Columbia

After his coaching career ended, Knight's duties at ESPN brought him to Columbia where he was courtside at the Colonial Life Arena for a 2009 contest.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Bobby Knight was in Columbia on December 22,1972 as Indiana faced off against Frank McGuire and the Gamecocks at the Carolina Coliseum. McGuire got the better of the Knight in a 88-85 victory for the home team.

Nearly 40 years later, Knight returned to Columbia during his time as an ESPN analyst.

In early March of 2009, ESPN carried the South Carolina-Tennessee game, the final home game of that year and Knight joined Brent Musburger courtside for the call.

Knight retired from coaching in 2008 and immediately was hired by ESPN where he worked until 2015.
