Fans are excited for Gamecocks celebratory parade on Sunday

The celebration is far from over. On Sunday at 2 pm, there will be a celebratory parade in Columbia.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The city of Columbia announced that they will be hosting a celebratory parade for the University of South Carolina’s nationals championship team.

The women’s Gamecocks parade will start on Sunday around the 1700 block of Main Street and end at the South Carolina State House.

Sydney Reformado is a student at USC, she says she is ecstatic to see the players up close.

“I’m so excited for the vibes,” said Reformado. “I love every team thing that goes on at USC, everyone ‘s just so happy and excited to be there and I just love the energy. And I’m excited to see the girls cause I fan girl every time I see them on campus even though they’re like my age.”

Scott Melski is a junior at USC he says this championship was a big deal for not only Gamecocks athletics but also women’s sports.

“So for me it’s really important when any of our teams can compete at a national level and to support them it just goes to be a testament to the amount of work that they put in and they deserve to be celebrated they deserve to be loved and it’s super important because you know everybody watches women’s sports now,” said Melski. “It’s super awesome to see that they’re thriving and they’re getting the national attention they deserve and to be able to go out and support them when they do so much for us and this school is awesome.”

Max Silverstein is a student at USC he says he will be in attendance for the historic parade.

“We’re planning on going it’s going to be great,” said Silverstein. “It’s just big for the program in general just two out of three years winning the national championship it doesn’t happen all the time.”

Crowds will have the chance to hear from not only players but also coach Dawn Staley.

Melski says Staley has built a strong foundation and culture for her team.

“I think they all deserve it she’s such a good coach,” said Melski. “She’s such a good human being and you can tell how much she loves these girls and how much they love her too and the system and the culture that she’s built around this program has just been awesome to see from a spectator point of view.”

More details for Sunday’s parade are expected to come later this week. Mayor Daniel Rickenmann and city council members are also expected to be in attendance.
