COLUMBIA, S.C. — With the score tied at four, 13th-ranked South Carolina received a clutch, two-run double from Ethan Petry for a 6-4 lead after seven innings.
But in the top of the eighth inning, the Bulldogs would score a pair of runs to tie the game six before Logan Jordan stepped up to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. Jordan would connect on a pinch-hit grand slam to put the Bulldogs up 10-6. Georgia would score four runs in the ninth for a 14-6 win with the visitors scoring 10 runs in the final two innings.
Georgia hit three home runs in Saturday's win for a total of 10 in the three-game series which saw Georgia sweeping South Carolina for the first time since 2019.
The Bulldogs have now won seven straight games to improve to 38-12 and 16-11 in the SEC. South Carolina falls to 33-18 and 13-14 in the league with a trip to Tennessee on tap which will wrap up the regular season.
South Carolina may need to win that series with the top-ranked Tennessee and have a deep run in the SEC Tournament to lock down a hosting assignment, although as Mark Kingston reminded everyone after Saturday's loss, the first goal is to get into the NCAA Tournament and then get on a roll into the Super Regionals.
But that task will be a tall order if Carolina can not solve its problems on the mound, especially in the later innings when the bullpen is called upon to close things out.
