COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina's history in the SEC Tournament is spotty to say the least but the Gamecocks will try to figure out a way to make a deep run this week which could help their seeding and their travel plans for the upcoming NCAA Regional.
The Gamecocks will face Alabama Tuesday with a scheduled start time of 2:00 p.m. EST at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex in what is the second game of the day in the single elimination portion of the tournament.
The winner of that game will face Arkansas on Wednesday as part of the double elimination format.
During the regular season, the Gamecocks dropped two of three in Tuscaloosa when the Crimson Tide were ranked 16th at the time.
Carolina was one of five teams who finished 13-17 in the SEC and tiebreaking scenarios put USC fourth among those five teams.
The Gamecocks are expected to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament but a six-game losing streak which could reach seven on Tuesday could mean being sent to another time zone for Regionals. Baseball America has a projection of USC in the Santa Barbara regional as a 3-seed with UC Santa-Barbara as a #16 national seed, 2-seed Arizona and 4-seed Fresno State.
D1baseball.com has a regional projection of South Carolina staying in state playing in the Clemson regional with the College of Charleston and Wright State.
