South Carolina baseball will open the NCAA Tournament in the Raleigh Regional

The Gamecocks are a two seed and will face James Madison with the host N.C. State and Bryant the other teams in the four-team regional.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — There was speculation the South Carolina baseball team might end up in Clemson but the late speculation from the national pundits had the Gamecocks in Chapel Hill.

But instead, the Gamecocks will be playing about 30 miles southeast of Chapel Hill in the Raleigh Regional. They will face James Madison on Friday, May 31 at Doak Field at Dail Park on the campus of North Carolina State.

USC is the two seed in the Raleigh Regional and will face the Dukes of James Madison for the first time since the 2008 Raleigh Regional which ended in a 7-5 South Carolina win.

The Gamecocks are 36-23 overall and finished 13-17 in the SEC, They dropped the final six games of the regular season in sweeps by Georgia and Tennessee but went 3-2 in the SEC Tournament in Hoover this past weekend.

James Madison is 34-23 record overall, 17-13 mark in the Sun Belt.

The #10 national seed, North Carolina State will host and face Bryant on Friday. The Wolfpack are 33-20 overall record and 18-11 in the ACC.

Bryant is 36-19 overall and 17-7 in America East play. They won the America East Conference tournament, defeating UMBC 15-10 in the final.

The Raleigh Regional is matched up with the Athens Regional. The winners of the two regionals will meet in next week’s Super Regional round.
