COLUMBIA, S.C. — W.J. Keenan graduate Milaysia Fulwiley has had quite the first season at South Carolina.
Yes, there have been some typical freshman mistakes but her resume includes being named to the SEC All-Freshmen Team and earning SEC Tournament MVP honors as the Gamecocks earned their eighth tourney title in the last 11 seasons.
But now, Fulwiley is about to compete in her first NCAA Tournament as the Gamecocks host Presbyterian College. While Carolina is expected to work its way to the Final Four in Cleveland, it is not as if Fulwiley can not learn some valuable lessons along the way.
The intensity and pressure of this type of tournament is unlike anything she has ever experienced and even her good friend and teammate Ashlyn Watkins says Fulwiley will not fully grasp what the tournament is all about until she goes through that gauntlet.
The first step is Friday at 2:00 p.m. against the Big South Tournament champions.
