COLUMBIA, S.C. — The NCAA transfer portal has created a certain amount o volatility in college athletics and that was on full display Thursday morning.

As first reported by The Big Spur,  South Carolina receiver Antwane "Juice" Wells plans on entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

After starring at James Madison, Wells transferred to South Carolina and in the 2022 season, Wells ended up earning First Team All-SEC honors after leading the team with 68 catches for 928 yards and six touchdowns.  His receptions and receiving yards totals both ranked as the eighth-best single-season marks in school history.

After he recorded three 100-yard receiving games in the last four regular season games, Wells was expected to give new Gamecock offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains another deep threat to stretch the defense. But Wells suffered what was characterized as a "lower body injury" in the preseason and he was limited to three games. His last play from scrimmage was a touchdown catch against Georgia. After catching the pass from Spencer Rattler, Wells suffered a foot injury and he was never seen on the field again.

Last week, Wells went on social media to announce he was not playing in the Clemson game but would be back in 2024.

But reading the tweet, Wells did not say he would be back in Columbia. although there was nothing on the radar to suggest he would not be in a USC uniform in 2024. But now it appears Wells is on the move and while the transfer portal does not open until Monday, Wells can enter it immediately because he is a graduate transfer.
