PENSACOLA, Fla. — After losing a hard-fought 2-1 match to Mississippi State eight days ago in Columbia, the South Carolina women's soccer team changed that narrative in a big way Thursday in the SEC Tournament semifinals.
Brianna Behm scored a pair of second half goals to help the fourth-seeded Gamecocks up set the top-seeded Bulldogs 3-0.
The win sends the Gamecocks to Sunday's SEC Tournament championship match. It was also the program's first win over a team ranked second in the country.
In the 48th minute, Catherine Barry delivered the ball to Behm who connected in the upper right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. It was the Gamecocks’ second shot of the match.
Just one minute and eight seconds later and with the flick of the foot, Behm found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.
Cat Barry scored on a penalty kick later in the half for the final margin.
Carolina will face the 3-seed Texas Longhorns Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm in the finals,
