DURHAM, N.C. — The South Carolina softball team (36-24) advanced to the NCAA Durham Regional final Sunday afternoon after defeating Utah 5-1 in an elimination game earlier in the day.
The Gamecocks would fall to the host school #4 Duke in the regional final 10-1 to end Carolina’s season.
Carolina was trailing 2=1 in the seventh inning, but Duke scored eight runs in the top of the inning to put the game out of reach.
Zoe Laneaux led the Gamecocks with a hit in each game. Brooke Blankenship also had two hits, both of which came against Duke. Aniyah Black led the way by driving in four runs.
The Gamecocks finish the season 36-24, the ninth time with 34 or more wins under head coach Beverly Smith.
