COLUMBIA, S.C. — After competing in the fall of 2023 with the Gamecock football team, Nyck Harbor has spent some time observing spring practice but his main focus in the recent months has been competing in track and field.
On Saturday, just hours before the football team wrapped up spring practice with the Garnet and Black Spring Game, Harbor was at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track competing in the USC Open.
After earning a pair of top three finishes, Harbor has been named the SEC Track & Field Men’s Co-Freshman of the Week.
Competing in the 100 meter dash, Harbor recorded a new personal best time of 10.12 (2.0) to finish third overall with the third fastest time in program history. Additionally, his 100m time is seventh in the region and 13th in the NCAA. Harbor would finish runner-up in the 200m, trailing only World Champion Matthew Boling. The South Carolina freshman tied his personal best when he ran a wind-aided 20.38 (2.9), which is also 13th in the NCAA.
