COLUMBIA, S.C. — The top-ranked and undefeated South Carolina women's basketball team will begin play in the SEC Tournament in Greenville with a noon showdown against Texas A&M.
The Bon Secours Wellness Arena has certainly served as a great host for this event and for South Carolina, it is more than convenient to have the conference tournament within the state's borders.
The 90-minute or so drive from Columbia to Greenville will lead to a decided home-court advantage for Carolina throughout the weekend.
But as head coach Dawn Staley puts it, the SEC Tournament could be held in the Bahamas "and our FAMS would come".
Staley also appears to have inside information when she made the declaration that if the SEC Tournament were to ever leave Greenville, the ACC would come in and take over.
The SEC Tournament has been held as far away as North Little Rock, Arkansas. Butt as long as it remains in Greenville, Staley and the Gamecocks will enjoy the home state advantage as they seek an eighth tournament title in the last 10 seasons.
